Time Travel Stories
John Nolte lists some time travel movies that work; It’s only a list of five, though, and he hits the nail on the head that time travel stories are difficult, that they fail invariably around page 60. This may be the place where the concept of the time travel anomaly, a convention required by such stories, is addressed. What’s difficult for a stand-alone story would be near impossible for a TV show. A friend referred us to the current offering call Life on Mars. We watched one episode, and except for a few facile references to the present, and the guy talking to his own mother the question of what effect he will have on the future was never broached — in that episode, anyway. Plus, they apparently couldn’t even get the Bowie song for a theme.
We can direct anyone looking to produce a working time story to Ei8ht, synopsis here, by our good friends Andy and Bill. It’s a steam punk sci-fi and the time anomaly is the entire 20th century.
